About Us

MAC Goaltending is a year round skill development and consulting company for goaltenders of all ages and levels. We provide our goalies with the most current and efficient techniques through Group Private Lessons, Super Sessions, Summer Camps, and Association Clinics. We also offer game video analysis through our Virtual Coaching.

We pride ourselves on delivering individual attention, cutting edge development, and personalized consulting. Our mission is to give each goaltender the best tools and opportunities to maximize his or her abilities.

At the early levels, the emphasis is on developing edges, movement mechanics, and fundamentals, while instilling proper training habits.

Once a foundation is established, the goalies will build a level specific technical base through game situational training, with a priority on competing for every puck.

The focus then shifts towards tactical development, breaking down the details of a goaltender's individual positional skill set, and learning to appropriately read and adapt to specific high-level situations.

Our Model

Bryan McDonald

Bryan is the Founder and Owner of MAC Goaltending. He is currently the Goaltending Coach for both Colgate University and Skidmore College as well as Goaltender Development Partner to ECAC Hockey.

Bryan began coaching goalies at the age of 12, working under the tutelage of former Ottawa Senators Goaltending Consultant Barry Madigan, and developing a passion for coaching the position. While playing his junior hockey, Bryan was heavily involved with the local youth hockey associations. Bryan attended Castleton University, remaining on staff after his playing career as the program's goalie coach. Shortly after, he started MAC Goaltending. Since it's creation in 2008, MAC Goaltending has served as the development coach for numerous goalies competing at the Professional, IIHF, and NCAA Levels. In addition to coaching collegiately, Bryan has also been tasked as a goaltending consultant with Wisconsin-Superior and Wilkes University (both NCAA, D3)

Ben is the Lead Instructor and Director of Video Coaching for MAC Goaltending. He is currently the goaltending coach for Penn State University (NCAA D1-Women) while also playing professionally, having spent time in the Calgary Flames, St. Louis Blues, and NJ Devils organizations. This follows a four-year career at Princeton University (NCAA D1) that culminated in an ECAC Championship and NCAA Tournament berth. Ben was also named multiple times to the ECAC All-Academic Team. Prior to Princeton, Ben attended at Albany Academy, before moving on to the EJHL (now NCDC) where he led the league in save percentage and set numerous franchise records.

Throughout his career Ben has worked closely with Bryan McDonald, beginning privately before the creation of MAC Goaltending. Ben has also coached alongside Mac for over twelve years, conducting private lessons, clinics with youth organizations, and leading our Summer Camp staff.
